We've interviewed 3 people in the last two weeks that have been out at least
eight months each. I realize 3 people are not indicative of the job market,
but it makes me feel very lucky to have been out only 5 weeks after Sept. 11
(was with an airline).

That would be about the same time I was out of work for 8 months, between
Disney Imagineering and Symbolics (L.A.). I spent most of that year temping
(secretarial) or sewing costumes for the Renaissance Pleasure Faire costume
department. Oh yeah, I finished the first draft of my first novel. It's good
to be multi-talented. :)

In 28 years of documenting software systems, SO FAR I have only been
unemployed for three weeks - and that was in 1989 after returning from two
years overseas. For those of you with short memory spans or work history,
1989 was a really bad recession that makes today's job hunting environment
look rosy.
