blogs, wikis, slashcode, phpnuke, zope-cmf, ...
These are a bunch of different types of what are basically web content
management systems designed with different purposes in mind. Each (of the
ones I listed) requires a different back-end, but the purpose is to provide
a web interface to allow various contributors to publish content to a site.
In thier default state, phpnuke & slashcode allow the content creator very
little control over the layout and formatting. that is all left to the site
designer.
Wikis tend to allow greater control over layout and formatting within
limitations. For example they implement tables, various heading levels, etc.
They all tend to have a great deal of flexibility, but I think most often,
the flexibility is not really exploited.
So, is a wiki like a blog? Sure, in a sense. I think blogs were designed
with a different purpose in mind though.
