I am faced with a dilemma regarding a job offer. I worked for a "dot com"
company for one year beginning in July of 2000. As was the fate of the great
majority of dot coms, I was laid off the following year. I received a
generous severance package, and, although the majority of the company was
laid off, a small amount (35) stayed behind to retool the technology and
attempt to re-emerge.
That was a year ago. The company has now come to me to ask me to return to
my job. They have retooled the technology and rolled out phase one, and they
are starting phase two. They have a few new customers and a business plan
that the investors and board are on board with. They are offering a generous
package, and I am at a point in my current job where job satisfaction is
low. There are no opportunities for advancement, and my work has become rote
and boring, and my attempts to branch out have been quashed. The management
philosophy is one of pigeon holing.
I pose the issue to those who may have been in a similar situation and
accepted the position or those who didn't and are glad they made that
choice. The technology at the old job is more exciting, and I would have
more opportunity for advancement as the company grows. Of course, I could
also get laid off again. I would appreciate any thoughts.
