This is definitely true. Those who are most vocal have reputations (both
good and bad). Personally, I have found that thoughtful responses will
get favorable responses... although, not necessarily right away. It
could be that months down the road someone who have been reading your
responses will reply, asking for advice or sending an offer (ok, that
was mostly in the midst the e-commerce boom, but it's never too early to
start working on your reputation before the next up-cycle).
If you are worried that a hiring manager will read your message some
time in the future - feel free to post, but be polite rather than
antagonistic and treat others on the list with respect. Even if you're
not worried about hiring managers, treating others with respect, even
when you disagree with them is probably a good idea, anyway.
For any wondering why I post less often than previously:
(1) I'm now on digest mode only. This means I'm a day behind and already
see enough relevant posts on the topic ... or forgot about the message
by the time I finished the daily digest.
(2) I have less time. I don't have time to read or post from work
anymore, and have limited time to post from home.
