With RoboHELP 2002, when I extract the source files from a compiled CHM
file, I don't get the original RoboHELP project file (the MPJ) out. From my
understanding, the project file is not a part of the compiled (CHM) or
generated (WebHelp) help system.

You can't run an MPJ file. You can _open_ an MPJ file in RoboHELP, which is
what happens if you double-click ("run") an MPJ file on a system with RH
installed. But double-clicking on an MPJ file on a system without RH won't
do anything.

I've never done it, but that's how it seems to me. If all you've got is the
CHM file, you can extract the HTML pages and graphics, etc. But then you'll
need to create a new project in RH, import the pages/graphics as necessary,
and then go from there.

It's important to note that the you're not compiling the MPJ file when you
compile a project to a CHM file. From my (guessed at) understanding, the
MPJ file just contains details about the project from the development
standpoint: things like what HTML files are "in" the project, when things
were last edited, what "progress" state they're in, compiling/generating
settings, etc. There's no actual CONTENT in the MPJ file.

Hope this helps.
