Jill,

The premier list for computer book authors is the Computer Book Publishing (cbp) list hosted at the StudioB literary agency (www.studiob.com). It's a wonderfully helpful group of folks, and you don't have to be associated with the agency (or any agency) to participate. Sign up at the website.

As to your main question: if you are being approached as a co-author, I'd think the other person probably has a publisher already. Obviously, I'd confirm that with him/her. Nonetheless, these topics are all pretty hot these days. With the combination of hot topic and Name Author, you should be able to get a good contract. But absolutely, don't start writing until you have that offer!

Good luck!

I was curious if there are other lists for computer book authors. The only one I am aware of is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/computerbookauthors
