That's how I interpreted "lined up": just that there have to be the same number of tab-delimited items in each paragraph you select.

On the other hand, if the tabs *are* lined up--that is, if they all share the same defined tab stops)--Word may try to set the column widths accordingly. That might save you a little work after you convert the text to a table.
