Productivity. The (high) value of their time. Avoiding the awkwardness of the way they do it now. (Understand that I'm talking about some fairly basic tasks that these people do frequently in programs they use all day long, not something arcane they'll never need again.)

Yah, me too. But I was referring to a situation where it's there already, if only for the moment.

I should add that I've received one off-list response tending to refute my hypothesis. The correspondent indicated that she is accused of being left-brained by her coworkers but nonetheless loves her shortcuts. So there's one data point agin' me.
