The only way around it that I know is to create bookmarks for all your
headings and then cross-reference to bookmarks rather than to heading
styles.

In Word 2000, I want to add cross-references to some headings whose
styles I created. However, the heading I want to refer to doesn't appear
in the Cross-reference dialog box. The online help for this problem
says:
"The Cross-reference dialog box displays only headings that are
formatted with a built-in heading style," meaning headings that come
with the standard Word template.

How insane is this?!? I can't use cross-refs unless I use MS built-in
styles? Tell me it isn't true. Do you know a way around this?

Thanks very much,
