Switching to XML/XSLT does require the ability to use the XSLT language, but
I was able to figure it out using some good references. Here are some
places to start if you're interested:

Info about DITA:
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/xml/library/x-dita4/index.html - this
site includes downloadable samples, which really helped me understand how
this stuff works together.

W3.org XML info: http://www.w3.org/Style/XSL/

Book: XSLT Programmer's Reference 2nd Edition by Michael - I LIVED in this
book when getting started.

Also, I searched the microsoft.public.xsl and comp.text.xml newsgroups quite
a bit, and whenever I posted got really helpful answers.

As much as I love using this system, it does take quite a bit of planning
and time to set it up. Fortunately, my boss was extremely supportive of my
taking the time to get it all set up - in part because I was able to make
the argument that it would be cheaper to maintain (and localize) in the long
run.

If you want more detailed info, feel free to contact me offline.
