<Just for curiosity--how is the technical writing job market outside the
United States (e.g., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Israel, India, Australia, New
Zealand, Continental Europe)?>

In Israel it's like in the US (judging by TECHWR-L threads), meaning TWs out
of jobs for long periods of time, some finding jobs for less, etc, the local
flavor being the "situation" + the fact that lots of native English speakers
"populated" the profession (during the dot com boom), this being their only
relevant skill. Now it's difficult for them to find a job, as real TWs are
also unemployed. Despite Israel being a telecom superpower (not largely
known), the local market is tiny. Venture capital is scarce and choosy. STC
membership dropped by 1/3.

For those interested in more details, I will be in NYC next week, reachable
by cellphone. Could chat over a cup of coffee about Israel/TW/whatever.

Erika
