You catagorized the types of writers in the corporate world very well. I have seen all those types and I know what group I fall into. there is another group I have seen though and I will call them "Newbies" for lack of a better word. These are the ones (like one here) that have never heard of Technical Writing but applied for the job because they heard all you do is write about technical things and put them together in a manual. A degree or background is not as important apparently as the willingness to do the work. The Newbie here seems to be working out well except for spending a lot of time asking me and the other Tech Writer a lot of questions. Maybe someday he will be a member of the smallest group you mentioned.
