There's no way to determine what's going to set someone off (all obvious
"buttons" aside). Answer whatever way you want. Every member of this list
(and the greater e-community, for that matter) possesses the ability and the
keyboard keys to delete unopened any email that they perceive will offend.
Most email programs also have "rules" that can be put in place to "kill
file" or remove "offending" emails unseen and unopened.

Please don't agree with everyone just to keep the peace. It'd be a very
boring list if we all agreed with everything everyone posted, and I find the
different views refreshing, even if the incidence of "taking it personally"
seems to be on the rise.

So here's my question. And I hope all those who have decided to hate me for
things I never said take this opportunity to reply to me, either on- or
off-list: Is there any way to determine a priori whether it is better to
disagree with you in private or in public? Is there a general rule of
netiquette that everyone but me knows about? Or should I just resolve to
agree with what everyone says, regardless of the logical impossibility of
doing so, and be done with it?
