Das ist fein -- if you speak German

IT pilot fish at this American chemical company is installing the
German-made data collection readers for the new ERP system. He's already run
into a few snags because of incorrect information in the manuals that
required a call to technical support to straighten out.
So he figures it's some similar problem when he finally gets the readers
connected via the network and their terminal screens come up in German.

"I quickly found the setting to change the language to English," says fish.
"I uploaded the new parameters -- and still had German screens."

So fish dives into the manuals once again. Several hours of reading and
tinkering later, the screens are still in German. So fish once more calls
tech support and explains his problem.

And the support tech tells fish that everything's working the way it's
supposed to: the "English language" file supplied with the data collection
readers is written in German.

Dumbfounded fish opens the text file containing the English-language
parameters -- and, sure enough, it's actually in German.

That's not a bug, it's a feature, the support tech tells him: "This lets the
end users enter their own translation."
