I was in a situation where I was the tech writer in a re-engineering
process and while I wasn't asked to take minutes at each of the
meetings (8 hours per day for 5 straight day), I WANTED a record of
everything everyone said. I bought a Sony dictating machine with
unidirections microphone and two boxes of tapes. I placed the
recorder in the middle of the table next to the polycom mike and just
let it run. Each night, for a week, I would take the two tapes from
that day and give them to a typist. For 30 dollars a day, I would
get, in a Word file, a complete dialog of the meeting. I could
concentrate on listening, knowing that I'd get a complete record,
word for word, of the meeting by the next day.
