This trick still comes in handy, in the absence
of punch card decks!
A stack of photos.
A line of CD's to keep in order.
Slides (photo). I havent gone digital, yet!
Anything stacked that can be marked on an edge.

Simplifying the concept to marks along an
edge, the trick comes in handy for other
things too. Alignment of cardboard for cutting.
I've used this trick many times.

Using one diagonal line vs two can be used
to segregate two mixed stacks. This came in
handy for the same slide used in two different
slide shows. Using different colors works too.

Let the imagination fly.

CB - Who's father still uses used cards for
making notes, but his supply is running low.

BTW - There was a use for these cards while
building components for the space shuttle,
but it was unrelated to the punched holes.

They were very reliably produced with the
thickness precise and consistent. Cards were
used to check & set the spacing between the
ceramic heat shield tiles. When the cards
started to fray, they were tossed.

Cheap, simple, effective, non-damaging.
An elegant solution. Cool.

COOL! I had never heard of this trick.

I can't believe you're giving me this hint NOW,
when, knock wood, I will NEVER EVER need it.
(Might be a way to cheat when playing cards, huh?)

These are the kinds of useless but precious
tidbits that make me treasure this list.
