Ok, Frame gurus. This Word maven needs help! ;-)

I'm using someone else's styles --
List1 <n=1>
List1_cont <n+>
List2 <a=1>
List2_cont <a+>

In most places in the doc, they work great. But I have
one list that's numbered this way:
1.
2.
3.
4.
a.
b.
3.
4.
a.
b.
c.

I have tried everything I can think of to change that
second 3 and 4 into a 5 and 6 -- reapply the style,
update all, hit return 10 times and backspace. The
paragraphs all number correctly before the substep,
but the step after b is always 3 -- no matter how many
new steps I insert before a.

I'm stumped!
