I've read, or tried to read, medieval descriptions of how to perform long
division that used no numbers. With that approach, it's clear why division
was a university-level subject back then!

As writers, we tend to shortchange graphics, but clearly there are areas
where graphics are an effective and even superior means of communication.
Images can even be effective for understanding software concepts, as any good
annotated screen shot will demonstrate. Textual descriptions of GUIs are
painful to read (and painful to write).

This discussion sounds like an attempt to choose between food and water. Some
people think visually, others don't. Why settle for only one way to
communicate?
