I am looking for any input I can get on cross-platform standards.

The last company I worked for developed for both Win and UNIX but the two
groups did not talk to each other or share materials.

I now work with a non-profit that has a diverse group of supporters. Those
who are technical tend to use UNIX or LINUX, those who are not tend to use
Win.

I am trying to develop a set of standards for communication and document
transfer that will satisfy both sides. I need to create a common ground for
internal development work between independent and geographically (and
culturally) diverse contributors.

I haven't found anything on the web nor in the archives that seems to cover
this. If you know of anything that I may have missed, please let me know.

The primary problem areas I have identified are:

Communications (email, instant messaging, conferencing, etc.)
Documents (manuals, letters, memos, presentations, etc.)
Graphics (raster, vector, etc.)
... and, of course, any recommendations for tools.

I have developed a preliminary list of solutions, but rather than posting
them for debate, I'd rather get individual recommendations (hooo boy, with
this group that's opening the floodgates).

In the interest of keeping list traffic under control, please reply to me
off-line. After I compile the suggestions, I'll add them to those I have
already gathered and post the list for further discussion.

When I complete the document I will make it available to anyone who wants
it. Perhaps posting it on the TECHWR-L web site.
