I agree. However, to alleviate problems in the inevitable face-to-face
meetings, I try to accustom myself to the accent through casual
conversation. "So, how was your weekend?"

I have a reasonable ear for accents (although untrained), so I find that
this helps. As well, it lets me get to know my colleague a little better.
