Hi Bobbie,

A couple of years ago I was in a somewhat similar situation, but I was only
looking for something that would search HTML pages. I found LOTS of very
big, very complex, and VERY expensive search engines out there that would do
all that you ask (and more!). Verity was the best in breed, but, IIRC, it
was over $50K and took a specialist to keep it in tune.

I did find a simple and cheap ($99) solution for HTML only ... Deva Search.
See www.devatools.com for more information. If you can start of small and
grow, this might work as it is very simple to set up and use. And yes, you
can exclude whole directories or even individual files.
