Re: FrameMaker-to PDF conversion- Question
I am struggling with an issue in the bookmarks section of a PDF file. When
I save .book.fm to PDF, some chapters show the headings collapsed(+), where
as the same heading level for another chapter, shows as expanded. The
settings are exactly the same for both the chapters under bookmarks in PDF
Setup. Can someone tell me where do I change the setting to fix this?
I am using Frame6.0.
With FM 6.0, you have no control over the initial expand/collapse
state of bookmarks. Third-level bookmarks are always collapsed, but the
expand/collapse state for first- and second-level bookmarks will vary, based
on FrameMaker's logic (depending on the number of lower-level bookmarks).
With FM 7.0, there is a new setting that lets you specify that first level
bookmarks will be collapsed, but it does not work as advertised
(problem can be reproduced consistently with sample files included
with FM).
There is a free plug-in (Win/MacOS) that will collapse top-level bookmarks
for you in one action -- http://www.planetpdf.com/mainpage.asp?webpageid=637 --
but this still a nuisance that has to be dealt with in each PDF, each time
it is recreated.
The CollapseBookmarks function in my FrameMaker-to-Acrobat TimeSavers
(platform-independent, also available as a subset) -- activated as part
of the distilling process -- lets you specify whether to collapse all bookmarks
under first level or *second level* bookmarks. See an illustration of the
CollapsesBookmarks function (and some of the other 12 bookmark-related
functions) in: http://www.microtype.com/TimeSavers/BmkCtrl_demo.pdf
