Actually, I got a job that way once. Well, at least
it helped get the interview. The employer had placed
a terrific ad in the newspaper and completely left off
the contact information. However, a couple of columns
over, another ad for another unrelated position was so
clearly from the same place, and it did include all
the right stuff. I pointed this out (gently and with
light humor) in my cover letter. They loved it--along
with being slightly mortified at leaving out the
information. I also gave a brilliant interview and
got the job, but if I hadn't looked further, I'd never
even have got my foot in the door.

This was long enough ago that you couldn't just surf
the infant internet for such things. ;-)
