ANNOUNCE: FrameMaker Structured Document Publishing Boot Camp in Hawaii
October 28-November 1, 2002
Island of Oahu
presented by Bright Path Solutions
This boot camp is normally $1800/person for the five-day class. For these
Hawaii dates only, the rate is $1475/person. If you have trained with
Bright Path Solutions before, the rate for these dates only is
$1200/person.
The rest of the story is:
Bright Path Solutions, a provider of FrameMaker training, has been
approached by a company in Hawaii that is seeking XML/SGML-related
FrameMaker training. This company has a small group to train and they are
interested in sharing costs with other students or another company. So
far, several students have contacted us but a few seats are still open.
Class participants receive about 1100 pages of materials, an XML book, and
access to 4 months of hotline support. Pricing does not include student
hotel/flight/expenses. The materials include coverage of FrameMaker+SGML
6 and Structured FrameMaker 7.
If you are interested in attending, please fill out our registration form
at http://www.travelthepath.com/pdf/regform.pdf and return it ASAP to FAX
919.474.9223. Seats are going fast!
The hiring committee convened to reevaluate the resumes of the technical
writers they'd already interviewed.
Cindy began, "I really liked Hal, but it seems that Maureen has a little
more experience."
"Maureen and Hal are great," her coworker Betsy agreed, "but do you
remember? Tracy uses SnagIt."
She answered the questioning glances of her colleagues, "Tracy using
SnagIt tells us a lot about her personality and approach to working - they
seem to mirror each other.
"For example, SnagIt is simple to use, yet extremely powerful. Not only
does it let you quickly capture the exact area of the screen you want, but
it has many, many additional features - such as letting you capture
dropdown menus, allowing you to capture the cursor or not, letting you
highlight the cursor, and offering AutoScroll, which lets you capture the
entire Web page as one single image."
A few coworkers nodded. Betsy pressed on.
"So don't you see? Tracy is probably easy to work with. She's also most
likely multi-talented - and since SnagIt is constantly being upgraded, she
probably continually hones her technical writing skills as well," Betsy
explained.
She saw a few enthusiastic nods and knew she'd made her point. They
agreed to bring Tracy in for a second interview.
Jeremy cleared his throat and proposed, "Um, if we're using software to
evaluate people's working personalities, I think there are some people on
this list that we should definitely avoid . . . if not outright fear."

TRAINING: Structured Document Publishing with FrameMaker 7
It is not enough to know how to do structure or how to work in structure.
You must also understand the why of structure and understand what some of
the naming and other conventions should be for working with XML and
FrameMaker 7.
It is not just documentation any more and it is not just a Heading1 or
Level1Head. You now have content that must be recognized as data and that
needs to be named and structured accordingly. And the rules go out the
window on text formatting. Instead of having one paragraph format that
looks like that you want it to look, you may have multiple formats that
look the same but are used in different circumstances for XML and have
different naming. Plus, you now have pieces of structure to name and to
set up with appropriate "nesting" for re-use or database import.
Bright Path Solutions provides training for FrameMaker 7 that is above and
beyond the norm. We teach you:
- what structure is
- what the benefits of structure really are
- how to write and edit in structure
- how to build new structure (with or without a DTD)
- what XML is about
- why naming matters in structure and formats
- how XML may be part of an enterprise publishing solution
- what XML round trip really means in FrameMaker 7
Come to our training and we will teach you all about structure and XML ...
including the WHY. Coming dates include:
