Friends, this really flipped me out when I finally figured out what was causing the unusual behavior. (Colleague still not back. Was in serious auto accident.)

I clicked anywhere in the Table, and right-clicked. Select "Table Properties". In the Table tab, under "Text Wrapping" -- "Around" was selected. When I selected "None", the problems went away! I have deleted all of the section breaks and replaced them with simple page breaks where needed (some tables were so small that they should have been on the same page, but I couldn't remove the section breaks.)

Can somebody tell me WHY one would want to set up a table with Text wrapping around it and Section breaks for every page? I have not ever had the need to do this.

Thanks for all of the responses, too.

I feel like I should known how to solve this, but I've already spent an hour chasing this down and come up empty (our Archives and MS's Web knowledge base). Maybe I need to check Woody's site.....

My colleague has given me a document (he is out of town now and I'm supposed to finish it). The document will be 99% tables, with just headings above.

Instead of manual page breaks, each new table follows a Section Break(Next Page). Also, when you turn on formatting marks, you can see all of the P's alongside the table.

I needed to insert more tables, which need to be set up exactly as the ones we already hame, but try as I might, I could not copy/paste without taking along the stupid section break. All I wanna do is use the Insert>Table command and then paste in the first 3 rows from a table I want to clone. (Some of the new tables are really small, and about the same Module as the previous table, so don't need a page break and want to conserve paper.)

Find/Replace of Section Breaks to Manual Page Break did not work.
Microsoft's known problem workaround of putting cursor at beginning of first cell and pressing CTRL+Shift+Enter inserted paragraphs as advertised, but did nothing to help me get rid of all of these section breaks.

In fact, sometimes deleting these breaks results in two tables "overlapping".

BTW, is there any advantage to setting up a document with all of these section breaks if you are never going to change the page layout or the running header/footer, or paper size? I wish he were here so I could ask him why he chose this approach.

This is Word/Office 2000 (9.0.3821 SR-1)

Thanks!
