I just wanted to reply on two of your points:
1) I totally agree on objectives. Put the kibosh on objectives, people!
It just tends to be marketing bunk anyway: "I want to develop my skills
while working with a dynamic team and leveraging synergy". It just seems
to advertise the quasi- and semi-truths that may exist further down the
page.
2) Speaking as someone who does do a bit of creative writing "on the
side", the last place I'm likely to do it is at work. Most creative
writers I know require a certain amount of uninterupted peace and quiet,
and I've yet to find a work environment that provides enough. On the
list of Time Wasting Activities Undertaken at Work, I suspect that
creative writing comes way below, say, booking holidays and instant
messaging.
Thanks. DB.
