Another option, with 20+ years experience, is to contact organizations such
as FIS (Foundation for International Services) - to name one. Often used for
immigration purposes, these groups assess a person's credentials and issue
an opinion/judgment of equivalency.
I know that they (in general) consider 3 years of working experience to
equal one year of academic study. Therefore, 12 years of experience would
give you the equivalent of a four year bachelor degree "from an accredited
college or university in the United States".
However, there are reasons OTHER than immigration to use this service - in
your case, you could then legitimately claim that you have the experience
equivalent to a degree and then some. You even have documentation to prove
it, if necessary.
