Is there any kind of training available to gain the working knowledge of
technical translation in german?

Sure: Live in the country* until you are fluent in the language. Make sure that you pick up the special terminology of whatever field you are workin in.

Sorry, I know that that is not what you were asking for, but I am not aware that there are any courses in language-specific tech writing, and I don't think they would work either. As I tried to convey in my last message, the crucial point here is being fluent in the language at native-speaker level (or close enough to make no difference).

And this kind of fluency cannot be learned from trainings, it requires actually using the language for an extended period of time. You can go part of the way by reading a lot of Geman, particularly from the industry you're working in, but that may not be enough.
