Written with the serene certainty that only comes from total ignorance on
the subject:

If it was me, I'd lead off with the former name for the company, then note
something like, "1988-1992, Technical Writer, XYZ Corp. (XYZ Corp merged
with ABC Corp in 1992; records of employment are now with ABC Corp.)"

Or something like that.  Of course, if XYZ merged with ABC, which was then
bought by DEF, but then spun off by DEF to be part of GHI, it will get messy
regardless of what's proper.
