I love my job, but I don't care for the corporate environment. All this
uncertainty in the economy/workplace is keeping me up far too many nights,
and I don't think that this is a healthy way to live. But this environment
isn't for everyone, and perhaps I may be one of those people. If I leave the
TW field, it would be because of my annoyance with corporate culture more
than any dissatisfaction with the actual job. I love the fact that I'm paid
to write, and in a cheesy sense, I feel blessed.
Also, I consider my self fairly ambitious, but the politics required to move
up that corporate ladder into Management are just not appealing to me.
If and when I leave TW, I'm getting my certification in secondary education
and I'm off to teach in the Chicago Public School system that my three
siblings and I grew up in. [Warning: Begin sappy idealism] Inner city public
school systems desperately need teachers, and I would eventually like to
give back to the community that got me this far (whether you consider this
far or not is a different topic altogether :)). [End sappy idealism]
Teaching is what I studied and planned to do after graduation, until I
discovered tech writing, and realized I can actually use my writing skills
outside of a classroom, and make more $ than a teacher. Who would've
thought? If I don't move into education in the near future, I always thought
it might be something I would do when I'm older and "grown-up".
