You can use the AutoCorrect feature in Word to do much the same thing.
Simply assign some type of shortcut to the "symbolized" name, so that whenever you use the shortcut, the formal name appears.

You probably should call the product what marketing wants it called - symbols and all. Don't forget the whole synonym thing -- the product, the system, etc. to cut down on over-repetition
