Questions such as "What are YOU interested in?" and "How big is your
organization?" come to mind immediately. One that I've been meaning to read
is _The Project Manager's Survival Guide_ by Donald Penner (Battelle Press,
2002). Can't recommend it, obviously, since I haven't yet read it, but it
looks intriguing.

Another in that category is _Starting and Managing a Publications
Department_ [approximate title], by Peter Hartmann. This one I HAVE read.
It's geared to a smaller company, but it has a lot of good ideas and is
written in a folksy style, based on Peter's own experiences at a bunch of
startups. if your boss is measuring the worth of a book by its weight, you
might prefer JoAnn Hackos' book, _Managing a Publications Department_.
Probably more than you ever want to know.

If you're interested in general management, you can find a wealth of good
stuff at your local library. Ask your reference or business librarian for
recommendations that fit your requirements.

HTH,
Marguerite
