Earlier this week, NPR Morning Edition ran a remembrance of the recently deceased Ed Bliss, Jr., an editor and a journalism teacher beloved of many NPR reporters. One related the experience of visiting his old professor with another former student who was showing off his new car. In the midst of admiring the car and marveling that a working journalist could afford one, Bliss knelt down, took a pen from his pocket and, between the "30" and the "day" on the temporary tags, inserted a hyphen.
