If you enjoyed Words and Rules, by Stephen Pinker, last year, you might want to delve a little deeper (emphasis on little) into the subject with The Atoms of Language, by Mark C. Baker--ISBN 0-465-00521-7.

I recommend it to anyone who is drawn to the occasional techwr-l threads on grammar and linguistics, as well as to anyone interested in translation and localization (either automatic or human).
