John, I agree with you that it detracts from the message when the reader stumbles
over the wording. Certainly, it is something to be avoided. *I* thought your
original question was to wonder why it was written that way in the first place. I,
and others I note, merely gave you an answer.

Actually, in this case, neither caused me to pause while reading or to stumble.
Perhaps I didn't have my brain on full power this morning. (Certainly I'm having a
lot of trouble with this keyboard!)
