My 2c:

I believe the range of tasks and related technologies and skills involved in the trail from thought to publication is increasingly being compressed. Both software and those who use to create content it are becoming expected to manage details of output that in the past had been managed by separate tools and other workers. Markup, page layout, cross-media links, preparation for various kinds of output media - paper, Web, CD-ROM, etc, are all becoming additional "hats" on the heads of technical (and other) writers and editors.

I think Sean's question is right on the mark - knowing what is current, common, and changing in the expectations for output management skills would be very useful for many of us.

Oh, no problem with that.

Am really curious what we were doing as an industry, though.
