RE: reviewing user manuals

I agree with Alan that you should let Marketing (and others) review the
docs.

HOWEVER, instead of just sending them the docs, you should give them
instructions or information on what they'll be reviewing and what you are
looking for. Even though you are sending them manuals, their mindset is in
marcomm and chances are that they'll use that perspective when reviewing.

This is how you end up with comments such as "it doesn't talk about the
product's strengths" or "it doesn't address the customer's needs". Those are
fair comments, but not for a user manual. Provide them with the purpose of
the manual and some instruction on what to review (and how), and you'll
probably be pleasantly surprised by the comments you do get back.
