I swore I wasn't going to chime in on this due to the speculation, blame,
and misrepresentation of facts that have not been verified. Like a New
Year's promise, I must concede and offer up my technical writing tie-in.
My very first college course was "Introduction to Technical Writing."
Little did I know I would end up actually working as a tech. writer years
later (you mean there is an actual profession for this stuff)? Anyhow, in
our first class the prof handed us a packet of paper and said "This is why
technical communication is important."
It summarized o-rings, temperatures, and the engineers that protested the
launch. I have never forgotten that, probably never will.
