In the Atlanic Monthly that came this week, there is a very frightening article that is a portion of a new book. Of course I can't recall the author or the book title ... However, it lists two pages of words and phrases that have been banned from textbooks for K-12 students. Among those words are "straw man" as it's considered sexist. They suggest something like "fabrication" as an alternative.

Some of the stuff in the list is just too too PC for my tastes. It's not up online yet, but will be in a few weeks.

No wonder kids are having a hard time learning - no one can write clearly any more for fear that someone, somewhere might take umbrage at a word or phrase.

Spare me from zealots of any stripe.
