By the way, just to make sure that this discovery was not original to me, I checked the MS Knowledgebase. As expected, it's there for all to see:

In a cursory glance, it looks like Word 2000 may be the last version where this problem exists.

On the one hand, I guess it means the feds won't be coming for me, since it's right there on the Microsoft site for all to see. On the other hand, MS says that it's not really a security problem: just, uh, make sure everybody else uses the same version of Word that you do. I take that to mean that even if they fixed the problem in Word 2002, someone can do the Save As RTF from a previous version without difficulty.

So now I guess the feds will have to enforce mandatory upgrades from previous Word versions to plug this hole.
