A couple of things come to mind ....

You could do a fun activity - Help System Jeopardy - where you present information in the Help (or manuals for that matter) and see if anyone knows where it came from, or what it applies to (or even if they knew the information).

You could follow that up with some "conceptual designs" for new information products, but make sure at least one of them is really, truly awful ... it will garner some comments. Then tell them that you were just trying to see if they were paying attention, and that the best way for them to ensure that nothing like that got done in the future is for them to give you input now on what they would really like to have. You might get some good input, but if not, you had fun, they had fun, and you tried. Beats yet another boring Powerpoint presentation!

My 2 cents,

John

The software company where I work hosts an annual conference for its

I've been asked to give a presentation on Technical Communications. This
is not a how-to class nor do they want to know how we do our jobs.

I'm having difficulty coming up with content that would justify their
attendance. My only thought so far is to skip the "presentation" and use
the time to get to know them and their needs so we can discover what kind
of information is lacking and plan how to deliver documentation in the
future.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks,
