Hi everyone,

I need some information about how people are using XML
to author and generate documents.

Segregating data based on product SKU or user role:

- Do you assign elements and attributes to chunks of
data, then parse out the data based on element or
attribute values?
- If you use a parser, is the parser an in-house tool
or 3rd party?
- If you use personas in Epic Editor, can you please
describe how personas function in the application, and
how you are using them?
- Are you transforming your documents prior to
shipping, or on the fly from a server?
- If you are transforming your documents on the fly
from a server, how did you program your
transformations to be aware of user roles?
- How do you handle users with multiple roles? i.e. do
you assign a unique number to each combination of
roles?

Creating context-sensitive help and providing an
attractive help interface:

- How did you set up content-sensitive help from the
application to your transformed content?
- What format (plain HTML, HTMLHelp, WinHelp, Web
Help, etc.) do you ship your help in?
- Do you transform to HTML, then import the HTML into
an application like RoboHelp so you can build your
TOC, index, etc.?
- If you transform to plain HTML, how do you build
your TOC and index? In other words, is your
transformed content displayed within frames? Do you
build a "master" TOC and index, then parse out
irrelevant information?

Transformations:

- How error-free are your transformations?
- Do you ever have to tweak the content after it has
been transformed?
- If you are transforming to PDF, do you ever have
trouble with the appearance of graphics, TOCs, etc?
- How do you validate hyperlinks prior to
transformation?

Thanks in advance for any help or insight you can
provide.

Cheers,

Rowena
