You might find the answers you're looking for over there, since I imagine
that the bulk of the writers here are in the same position you are. Linux
doesn't have a history of paying people who write for a living. Here, I
think you're going to find just the answer you were searching for in your
initial post-lots of people don't make lots of money writing Open Source
documentation. (However, the fact that you don't find a lot of writers who
have made money writing documentation for Open Source products doesn't mean
that will always be the case.)
