Peter....the subject is SO broad, and at the same time, very specific.
Imaging is broad...way too broad to cover here and covers a wide range of
technologies and applications.
However, how YOU apply imaging is very specific and probably very different
than how I (or anyone) else applies them. It is just too specific to address
without giving us some guidance.
Bad question:
>vector, compression technologies, what formats

Good question:
My situation is that I'm creating print documentation using Framemaker, but
posting to the web in the form of HTML with CSS is a factor. Therefore,
should I use a vector format such as EPS for the documentation and convert
to raster as needed for the web or should I go with a raster format for
everything up front? If I go with the first option, has anyone batch
converted on the fly and what did you use, or if the second option, what
format of image is the best compromise?
BTW...you didn't get 18 million useless results. You got THOUSANDS of
results that apply to your situation, and millions of results that apply to
someone else. Suggestion...learn how to phrase the questions so you get a
much more limited result.
In otherwords, we need some direction...otherwise, the answer is 42.
