First off, I have never heard of a company paying time for
attending classes.

My company does as a matter of course. So do many others.

Second, YOU are getting something out of this in the end.

But the company is getting something out if it immediately. And they decide where you have to go.

There are arguments for the company paying for the time as well as for them not paying. In the end, I suspect it is impossible to make general statements about all such trainings regarding whether the company should pay or not. Different arrangements are likely appropriate depending on the exact circumstances.
