Re: Senior/junior level technical writing
From my perspective, the senior designation isn't based on the position
hierarchy at a location, but the writer's ability to perform their job at
varying degrees of complexity and independence and with certain levels of
direction.
As with the other posters, I also agree. Senior Technical Writer doesn't mean that you are above anyone, but means that you can do the job without being told what to do.
I've been given very little instruction at my current job, for example. Nearly every time a manager or director has come to me and asked me to write a particular document, I have a draft to present on the spot. That is because I recognize the need for documents before anyone else, perform any needed research, then write a draft and store it where I can pull it out quickly to impress them!
