Yes it does. I just created a 50x50 pixel jpg, which consisted of a red
background to which I added a white letter g. I saved it as a jpg. The
color count was 3. I closed it. I reopened it, and the color count was 258,
and the red had some off-red noise in it. I saved it and closed it. I
reopened it, and the color count was 463.
