Perhaps she prefers Ms for the same reason that an 80-year-old bachelor
uncle is be unlikely to be called "Master"?
(Unless, of course, it's a lifestyle thing.)
The straightforward solution is to become a doctor or minister. I hear
there are places that will sell such accreditations for a nominal fee (I'm
not naming any names ...). Legitimacy is a whole 'nuther issue, though, and
that takes us 'round to the "REAL Tech Writer" debate.
By the way, a surname change is not automatic upon marriage in Ontario or
Quebec.
