Barb,
This mostly comes up during the editing process when I am making changes to
the links, then testing them. Therefore, I am editing the Welcome page and
it wants to save it. The following response fixed it for me:
"You and your audience have a preference at Edit >
Preferences > General > Options, called Open Cross-Document
Links In Same Window. If you clear this, jumping out of the
Home document will open a new window, leaving the Home
document open in its original window. This will resolve YOUR
problem, but you have no way of controlling this option on
the target machines."
Then, I save the Welcome page when I am about to close it. This has made
testing the Welcome page go much faster because I am not waiting while it
saves, closes, then re-opens.
Regards,
Jessica Nealon
Technical Writer

Interesting. We have the same setup (many pdfs linked to the Index pdf),
and understand that the Index pdf closes and re-opens - but in my
experience does not save or get larger over time.
