You can bind each of the styles for bulleted list items to "Shotcut keys" and ask your coworkers to use the keys instead of selecting the style from the dropdown.
So, all that they need to do is, select the text and hit the shortcut key!

To attach a shortcut key to a style,

1. Click Style from the Format menu
2. Select the style that you want to attach the key to, and click Modify
3. Click the Shortcut Key button on the lower right-hand corner
4. Enter the shortcut key - a combination of Alt/Ctrl keys and any character
(For Example: Ctrl-R, Alt-~, Ctrl-*)

Repeat the steps to attach keys to as many styles as you want.
